Concordia Damen provides its expertise for the new Rotra vessels
Dutch shipbuilding major Concordia Damen has offered its expertise for a partnership developing two new versions of the Rotra concept vessels. The evolution of the Rotra Mare and Rotra Vente, specialised vessels for the offshore wind sector, is currently under construction at the Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard in China and is expected to be delivered to Amasus Shipping in 2025.
The Rotra Futura and Rotra Horizon are a result of a partnership between deugro Denmark, Siemens Gamesa, DEKC Maritime, Amasus Shipping and Concordia Damen. Together, the group of companies have mapped out the challenges of the offshore wind sector and designed future-proof and sustainable vessels.
Building upon the success of the Rotra Mare and Rotra Vente, the Rotra Futura and Rotra Horizon are designed to accommodate the growing size and weight of modern wind turbine components. These vessels feature a unique RO/RO system and an innovative portal system that enables efficient and safe transportation of larger loads. The three Liebherr cranes and the special portal system allow for the stacking of turbine blades in three tiers, optimizing cargo capacity and flexibility.
The Rotra Futura and Rotra Horizon, measuring 167.6 meters in length and 26 meters in width, have been designed to optimize cargo capacity. By strategically positioning the wheelhouse and accommodations at the front of the ship, these vessels maximize deck space for loading and unloading large wind turbine components. These vessels are well-equipped to meet the growing demand for transporting larger and more powerful wind turbines, contributing to the global shift towards renewable energy.
Concordia Damen, in collaboration with its partners, has prioritized sustainability in the design of the Rotra Futura and Rotra Horizon. The vessels feature an optimized hull design, energy-efficient engines, and a hybrid propulsion system, all of which contribute to reduced fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions. Additionally, the implementation of a waste heat recovery system further enhances energy efficiency. These innovations align with the growing demand for environmentally friendly shipping solutions in the offshore wind industry.
