CEVA Logistics recently completed the transport of five self-developed double-decker railcars from China to Montreal, Canada, for CRRC Tangshan. The operation involved a multimodal solution, combining land, sea, and rail transport. CEVA was tasked with route planning, specialized packaging and securing techniques.

The damage-prone railcars were moved more than 12,000 kilometres from the factory in Tianjin, China to Montreal, Canada. Each railcar weighed more than 62 tons, measuring 27 metres in length, 3.1 metres in width and 4.9 metres in height.

The 62-ton railcars embarked on their trip along a predetermined path, starting from the manufacturing facility in Tianjin and heading to Tianjin Port in the northeast of China. After that, the railcars were loaded onto a cargo ship that voyaged eastward through the Panama Canal to Bécancour Port in Quebec. Upon arrival, the railcars were transferred from the ship to railway tracks and ultimately reached the project site in Montreal.

CEVA was actively involved in assisting with customs clearance procedures in Canada and collaborated closely with CEVA teams in China and Canada to ensure smooth export and import processes due to the international route the railcars travelled.
