AtoB@C Shipping christens its second plug-in hybrid newbuild Stellamar
AtoB@C Shipping, a subsidiary of ESL Shipping, christened its second plug-in hybrid vessel, Stellamar, in Ystad at the end of last month. It is the second in the series of twelve plug-in hybrid general cargo vessels. It was delivered in April.Â
“It was an honour to participate in the christening ceremony of Stellamar – a new generation vessel that shall carry products to customers of Metsä Group in a more environmentally friendly way”, says Veli-Matti Passinen, Vice President of Logistics at Metsä Group.

ESL Shipping said that Stellamar, a new vessel designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 50 per cent compared to previous generations. The Stellamar is equipped with innovative features such as shore power connectivity, substantial battery installation, and enhanced cargo intake, contributing to cleaner and quieter operations while in port. The vessel can carry a wide range of bulk and breakbulk cargo, including steel, forest products, fertilizers, and project cargoes.
ESL Shipping is expanding its fleet of sustainable vessels, with the Ecomar, the third vessel in the series, currently en route from India to Europe and the Aquamar nearing completion at the shipyard. The production of the tenth vessel, Astramar, began in July.
