COLI Logistics recently transported four oversized main shafts, weighing over 33 tonnes each, from Houston to Esbjerg, Denmark.

COLI’s US partner, Draft Cargoways India, ensured that the cargo was shipped from Houston to Bremerhaven, Germany before being moved on to Esbjerg, Denmark. Once the cargo reached Bremerhaven, COLI Logistics stepped in together with its partner Stange Transport, a specialist haulage company.

Because of the size and weight of these shafts, they needed to be trucked not just with a special permit, but also an escort, according to COLI. Additionally, the two partners needed to sort out customs clearance for the oversized cargo.

And let’s not forget the challenge of crossing borders, which meant using customs-bonded trucking.

However, the most challenging part of the transport was the fact that the centre of gravity of each oversized shaft was off to one side. This meant having to load the truck strategically to handle this heavy cargo, not just due to size, but also as to how the weight should be managed in terms of point load.

The trucks were loaded in Bremerhaven from the transport vessel, a T1 customs document was acquired, and closed upon arrival at Padborg, Denmark, and safely and timely delivered to their destination in Esbjerg.
