German shipowner Krey Schiffahrts has hit a milestone in the construction of its multipurpose (MPP) vessel pair at the Taizhou Sanfu Ship Engineering yard in China. The company cut steel for the first of two F500 Tier III multipurpose project carriers.

The company placed the order for the two vessels towards the end of last year, alongside a similar pair of 12,500 dwt MPPs ordered by Auerbach Schifffahrt.

According to Krey Schiffahrts, its 12,250 dwt IMO Tier III MPP project carriers are flexible, heavy lift ships equipped with two cranes with a SWL of each 250 mt. The Eco Trader features an optimized hull design and propulsion system, resulting in a 35 per cent reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to similar vessels.

Equipped with a powerful crane and ample cargo space, the ship can handle a wide range of cargo, including long units and dangerous goods in its two holds with one measuring 76.5 metres in length.

The multipurpose project carrier’s design, including folding hatch covers and adjustable tweendeck pontoons, allows for efficient loading and transportation of different cargo configurations. An automated anti-heeling system further enhances operational efficiency, while its Ice Class rating and open-top hatch covers expand the vessel’s operational capabilities.
