The Port of Gothenburg is now connected with key ports in Asia by a new direct Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) service. The service operated by Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers connects Sweden with Singapore, and the Chinese ports of Xinsha, Tianjin, and Shanghai, initially once a month.

The primary focus of the new service is the transportation of Swedish export cars to the Asian market. However, the vessels are also equipped to handle a variety of cargo, including high and heavy project cargo as well as imports from Asia.

The LNG-powered vessels used in this service offer significant capacity, with space for up to 7,500 vehicles across 13 decks. Four of these decks are height-adjustable, allowing for the transportation of oversized and unique cargo.

The Port of Gothenburg’s Car Terminal, managed by Logent Ports & Terminals AB, handles the vessels. This terminal has extensive experience in handling both vehicles and project cargo. The Port of Gothenburg already offers similar direct RoRo services to North America, Oceania, and South America through its partnerships with Wallenius Wilhelmsen and Höegh.

“A direct RoRo line to Asia is a fantastic addition to the port’s overall offering, which really strengthens both the port’s and our customers’ competitiveness. It’s exciting that the service is now up and running, and that the initial calls have attracted such strong interest,” says Richard Mellgren, Senior Business Development Manager at the Port of Gothenburg.

In the picture, we see Min Jiang Kou, one of the vessels in this new service, arriving at the Port of Gothenburg yesterday, Thursday evening, and currently being loaded at the quay.
