APM Terminals Callao reported a 15 per cent increase in import volumes during the first half of the year, with 780 vessels calling the Callao Multipurpose North Terminal.

“APM Terminals Callao remains committed to the efficiency and development of the Callao Multipurpose North Terminal. We will continue to implement technological and operational improvements to further reduce unloading times and increase our capacity to handle higher cargo volumes, this in line with the progress we have been making for stage 3A of the expansion. Our goal is to continue to be a leading port in the region, providing high-quality services to our customers,” said Fernando Fauche, commercial director of APM Terminals Callao.

The Callao Multipurpose North Terminal has experienced a surge in cargo traffic during the first half of the year, with notable growth in key sectors. Wheat and corn imports witnessed an increase of approximately 15 per cent, while steel coil shipments rose by nearly 20 per cent. The automotive sector, including heavy machinery, saw a significant boost of around 30 per cent compared to the previous year.

To support the growing agricultural exports, APM Terminals Callao has invested in expanding its infrastructure, including electrical outlets and specialised services. This expansion has solidified the North Pier’s position as a strategic hub for agro-exports in Peru. The port’s ability to handle increased volumes across various sectors demonstrates its versatility and importance as a key gateway for international trade in the region.

Thanks to its commitment to continuous improvement, APM Terminals Callao has also increased its containerised cargo operation speed by 11 per cent, without affecting its high quality and safety standards. This allows shipping lines to gain sailing time, thus supporting cost reductions in the entire logistics chain.

“We will continue to continually improve ourselves to remain the key node in global maritime trade,” Fauche concluded.
