Only days after securing expansion in the Asia-Pacific region, offshore wind farm construction, maintenance, and decommissioning specialist Cadeler has secured contracts for the offshore wind farms Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3. The two projects are a 50/50 joint venture between Equinor and Polenergia, and are expected to rake in €120 to €144 million for Cadeler.

The offshore wind farms Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 will be situated in the Baltic Sea, about 22 km and 37 km away from the port of Łeba, Poland. A total of 100 offshore wind turbine generators (WTGs) will be installed in the Polish Baltic Sea as part of these projects.

Cadeler intends to utilize an O-Class and a P-Class vessel for the projects. Due to the intricate nature of the project, Cadeler is implementing an innovative dual-vessel arrangement, providing the exclusive adaptability required by the client to achieve their capacity goals, while highlighting the benefits of possessing the largest, most flexible, and proficient fleet of jack-up vessels in the industry.

The installation of WTGs is scheduled to commence in 2027. Upon becoming operational, the two wind farms are projected to produce a combined capacity of 1440 MW, supplying electricity equivalent to the needs of over two million households.

“This marks our third major project in the Polish market, showcasing the strong business potential in that market, driven by increasing demand for renewable energy,” Mikkel Gleerup, CEO of Cadeler, said. “We are proud to support our partners in accelerating the transition to sustainable energy, with these projects ultimately benefiting more than two million households. Additionally, this is our first firm contract with Equinor and Polenergia, and we look forward to working closely together to set the stage for future successful collaborations.”

The vessel reservation agreements with the Equinor and Polenergia joint venture projects were initially announced on 13 May 2024.
