Heerema’s Thialf secures Baltyk II and Baltyk III work
Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) has secured contracts from MFW Baltyk II and MFW Baltyk III, joint ventures co-owned by Equinor and Polenergia, for its heavy-lift vessel Thialf. These contracts mark a major win for HMC in supporting the development of offshore wind energy in the Baltic Sea.
The Baltyk 2 and Baltyk 3 projects, located approximately 27 and 40 kilometers from the port of Leba, Poland, will see Heerema leverage their expertise in offshore wind farm construction. The scope of the contracts encompasses the transportation and installation of 100 monopiles and transition pieces, sourced from European fabrication yards, across both wind farm sites. Additionally, HMC will handle the transportation and installation of offshore substation jackets and topsides.
Central to these critical operations will be Heerema’s advanced heavy lift vessel, the Thialf. Thialf’s advanced capabilities and motion-compensated gripper frame make it ideally suited for the complex and demanding tasks associated with these large-scale offshore wind projects.
Upon completion, the Baltyk 2 & 3 wind farms are expected to boast a combined generation capacity of 1.44 GW, providing clean electricity to over two million households. Heerema Marine Contractors is dedicated to delivering excellence in offshore construction and is enthusiastic about contributing to these landmark projects, which will deliver lasting benefits to the region.
