Ørsted has selected the newly established Seaway 7 as its preferred contractor for transport and installation of wind turbine generators for part of the Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore windfarms in Germany. The newly established join venture between Subsea 7’s renewables business unit and OHT will deploy its jack-up installation vessel VIND1.

The projects are expected to be fully commissioned in 2024 and 2025. The contract award is subject to EU tendering procedures, and Ørsted’s final investment decision to proceed with the projects, Seaway 7 said in its statement.

Commenting on the contract award, Seaway 7 CEO Stuart Fitzgerald noted this is the first contract for its newbuild wind turbine installation vessel. Seaway 7 will have an active fleet of ten vessels and two further high-specification vessels under construction.

Seaway 7 ASA will leverage strengthened capabilities and a differentiated asset base to capture an increased share of this high-growth market and reinforce its position as a global leader in the offshore wind industry.

Looking ahead, with the financial and operational support of its parent company, Seaway 7 aims, if market conditions permit, to accelerate the expansion of its specialised fleet.
