Jumbo-SAL-Alliance transports LNG absorbers for Chiyoda

The Jumbo-SAL Alliance, the Heavy Load Carrier Jumbo Javelin, will transport two, 1,535 tonne, liquefied natural gas (LNG) absorbers from Singapore, to the North Field East (NFE) project in Qatar. This shipment, commissioned by the Japanese Chiyoda Corporation, is the first of two scheduled heavy project cargo shipments.

A joint venture between Chiyoda Corporation and Technip Energies (CTJV) won a major Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) contract in February 2021. As per this contract with the State owned Qatar Energy company, formerly Qatar Petroleum, they are to deliver to the North Field East Project (“NFE”) four mega trains, used to transport Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Each of these trains will have a capacity of 8 million tonnes per annum of LNG. CTJV is also to provide associated utility and offsite facilities.

The Jumbo-SAL alliance was involved in this first shipment from an early stage, with technical teams planning the process of  saddle sizing,  positioning and lifting the two LNG Absorbers. Despite the ultra-heavy cargo, the loading was a success.

The Jumbo Javelin has left Changi, in Singapore, and is now moored in Kaohsiung harbour, from where it will continue on its journey to Qatar, one of the leading global producers of LNG. This order is part of Qatar Energy plans to increase their LNG output by 40% by 2026, with an NFE expansion project.
