Roll Group, a heavy cargo transportation company, has taken delivery of RollBarge 1, a versatile new addition to its fleet at the ASL Yard in Batam, Indonesia.

During the ceremony, Roll Group’s CEO Peter Rondhuis expressed gratitude to the key partners Viva Energy, McDermott, ASL Yard and BRS Brokering for their commitment and dedication to the project. “Together, we have not only created a valuable new asset to our fleet, but also enhanced our portfolio with a solution that improves efficiency and makes a significant contribution to our environmental preservation targets.”

RollBarge 1, the latest addition to Roll Group’s fleet, is a versatile barge designed to enhance the company’s capabilities in heavy cargo transportation. The barge’s unique design allows it to float in and out of Roll Group’s semi-submersible ships, expanding the company’s reach to remote areas with shallow waters. By eliminating the need for extensive dredging, RollBarge 1 reduces costs for clients and minimizes environmental impact, aligning with Roll Group’s commitment to sustainability.

Looking forward, Roll Group is further expanding its asset base in 2024 with a second Gantry portal crane with a lifting capacity above 4,000 tons. This newbuild crane offers an innovative alternative to traditional large ringer cranes, promising a reduction in both operational time and carbon footprint by over 50 per cent. This marks Roll Group’s second major lifting solution introduced within the past two years.

In addition, Roll Group will add two more deck carriers to its fleet in 2025 and has invested in an additional 300 axle lines, including both conventional trailers and Self Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs), with further expansions expected in the near future.
