Royal Boskalis B.V. has reported a strong first half of the year, with net profit surging 65 per cent to €298 million. The company attributed the results to high fleet utilization and increased earnings across all divisions.

Revenue rose 5 per cent to €2.07 billion, driven by strong performance in dredging and infrastructure, offshore energy, and marine transport and services.

Peter Berdowski, CEO of Boskalis, said, “Financially, the past six months have been the most successful we have achieved in Boskalis’ long history. There was an exceptionally good performance across the board. EBITDA increased by nearly 50 per cent to more than half a billion euros and net income by 65 per cent to almost 300 million euros.”

The offshore energy unit capitalized on the growing demand for wind energy installations, with projects in the US and Europe contributing significantly to revenue. “At Offshore Energy, we have invested heavily in recent years in equipment that can be deployed in both the offshore wind market and the traditional fossil energy market. This has given us a strong position in the lifecycle chain from development, installation and maintenance to decommissioning of offshore structures. Thanks in particular to this strategy, we again achieved excellent results in the past six months,” Berdowski added.

Marine transport and services also delivered strong results, supported by the acquisition of ALP’s powerful oceangoing tugs and increased activity in the salvage and towage segments.

The size of the order book is €5.3 billion and combined with the market outlook, Boskalis are positive about the rest of 2024. “The volume of work in the order book is still at a healthy level. With 5.3 billion euros of work in the portfolio and a strong financial position, we look to the future with confidence,” concluded Berdowski.
