Meriaura Group is making a change at the helm following the resignation of its current CEO, Kirsi Suopelto, who moved on to a new post. The company informed that Suopelto will continue as Meriaura Group’s CEO until September 30, 2024.

The search for the new CEO of the company did not last too long as the board named its current chairman, maritime counsellor Jussi Mälkiä, as the new CEO starting October 1, 2024. Board member and vice-chairman Antti Vehviläinen will assume the role of chairman of the board on October 1, 2024.

“We thank Kirsi for her work in overseeing the integration process of Meriaura Group and wish her success in her new challenges. Now it is time to focus on business development, growth, and improving profitability. I see that Meriaura Group has excellent opportunities to implement green transition innovations on a large scale, and I intend to invest all my expertise into this work,” says Jussi Mälkiä, chairman of the board and future CEO.

Meriaura Group has two business areas, Marine Logistics handled by Meriaura Ltd and Renewable Energy handled by Meriaura Energy Ltd.

Meriaura Ltd, is a major provider of transport for bulk cargo and demanding project deliveries in Northern Europe, especially in the Baltic Sea and North Sea regions. The group recently sold a minority shareholding of Meriaura to the group’s largest shareholder, Meriaura Invest.

The agreed sale price for the 20.6 per cent ownership share is €4.5 million. This amount will offset Meriaura Invest’s loan receivable of €4.43 million along with interest from Meriaura Group. The transaction includes a dismantling clause, allowing Meriaura Group to repurchase Meriaura’s shares at their original purchase price by the end of 2024.
