Maersk, Vestas ink South Korea-focused wind turbine logistics MoU
Shipping giant Maersk has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the wind turbine manufacturer Vestas for joint investment. The two companies aim to establish a nacelle manufacturing plant and logistics base for offshore wind turbines at the Mokpo New Port Hinterland Complex in South Korea.
Commenting on the agreement, Maersk CEO Vincent Clerk, said, “For Maersk, this is a good step for project logistics in Asia Pacific and a key milestone in our integrator strategy of delivering end-to-end logistics solutions for our partners. We continue to strengthen our partnership with Vestas, which is based on a shared vision and our joint commitment to a green, sustainable future for our planet.”
Present at the signing ceremony was the Governor of Jeonnam Province Kim Yung rok, the Mayor of Mokpo City Park Hong-ryul, Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc, and Vestas COO Tommy Rahbek Nielsen.
Furthermore, Vestas said that the partnership aims to strengthen the local economy by potentially hiring local talent and collaborating with local companies.
Additionally, Jeonnam Province and Mokpo City will provide the necessary administrative and financial support to create a sustainable supply chain.
The plan is dependent on the pace of market growth and awarded volume for Vestas.
