Al Jaber Heavy Lift & Transport recently completed a complex lifting operation in Qatar. The company lifted a 40-meter-long, 10-meter-high boat with uneven weight distribution using three different Modulift spreader beams in a ‘1-over-2’ configuration.

The use of Modulift’s interchangeable spreader beams, including the MOD 600XB/600, MOD 250, and MOD 110, allowed for a cost-effective and efficient solution. This innovative approach enabled the lifting of the boat despite its uneven weight distribution.

“The 150-tonne boat was handcrafted in Kerala, India, and brought to Qatar waters. It required lifting onto the jetty in Qatar for further maintenance purposes. Our operations team were able to execute the lift safely and cost-efficiently at the port. We wouldn’t have been able to turn this lift around so quickly without the MOD spreader beam system. An uneven weight distribution during lifting can cause tilting or even catastrophic structural damage to the item being lifted. Using three different MODs in a ‘1-over-2’ configuration helped to negate these challenges,” Fasin Abubacker, Engineering Manager at Al Jaber said.

According to Sarah Spivey, Managing Director at Modulift, the MOD spreader beams, available in sizes from six tons to 2000 tons, are specifically designed for lifts such as the one completed by Al Jabel Heavy Lift & Transport.
