SAL Heavy Lift, a member of the JSI Alliance, and a Harren Group company has hit yet another milestone in the construction of its Orca class heavy lift multipurpose vessels. The MV Frida recently hit the water at the Wuhu Shipyard in China.

MV Frida, together with its sister vessel MV Elise which was launched a few months prior, will be contracted to Siemens Gamesa.

The vessels will be equipped with dual-fuel engines, enabling them to operate on methanol as an alternative fuel. This will allow the Jumbo-SAL Alliance to offer carbon-neutral shipping solutions, aligning with the Harren Group’s sustainability goals.

The 149.9-meter-long, 27.2-meter-wide vessels have a capacity of 14,600 dwt and a large, box-shaped cargo hold capable of accommodating oversized cargo. With Ice Class 1A and Polar Code certifications, these vessels are well-suited for operations in cold conditions. Two 800 t Liebherr cranes have been specifically designed for this ship type and can handle cargo items weighing up to 1,600 tons in tandem.
