Spliethoff orders eight L-type MPPs at Wuhu

A shipping company specialised in breakbulk and heavy lift cargo transportation, Spliethoff, has decided to change the narrative of the summer and placed an order for eight multipurpose vessels (MPPs). The order placed with the Wuhu Shipyard in China includes an option for two more vessels which could edge the order to a total of ten MPPs. 

Spliethoff said that the L-type vessels are specially designed for the transportation of various dry cargo types, including paper products, bulk cargo, project cargo and containers.

These Finnish/Swedish 1A Ice-Classed vessels will measure 203.25 m in length, 28.25 m in width, and will have a maximum draft of 10.5 m. They will have a total capacity of about 33,700 m3 and a deadweight (DWAT) of 28,600 mt, making them the largest vessels in the Spliethoff fleet. This new series will be delivered starting the first quarter of 2028.

The ships have sleek hull designs and will be ready to use upcoming fuel types. They will feature a front-located bridge and will come with five side loaders and three cranes, each with a capacity of 150 metric tons, which can be combined to lift 300 metric tons. These ships have a spacious, unobstructed deck, making them suitable for carrying large cargo.
