Portuguese specialised transport company, LASO Transportes, recently completed the transport of two bridges from Oliveira de Frades to the Port of Aveiro, and then continued by sea to the Port of Rotterdam. The two units were manufactured by Martifer – Construções Metalomecânicas.

The length of each transported bridge was roughly 50 meters. Because of their size, transporting them necessitated the use of a Tower Adapter, a tool that enables hydraulic adjustment to the width of the load, making it easier to perform more intricate manoeuvres.

The bridges’ dimensions and weight posed several challenges to LASO, requiring the company to conduct detailed and rigorous planning to avoid obstacles and minimize risks. The roads were prepared to ensure the safe passage of the structures, involving coordination with local authorities to ensure a smooth operation.

The company said that the complexity of the transport was not limited to the size of the bridges. “Time management was also crucial. The transport had to be carried out at night to avoid road congestion while ensuring that port operations at the Port of Aveiro were not disrupted,” the company said.

Safety was the top priority throughout the entire operation, to protect the bridges, the staff involved, and the general public, according to the traffic manager LASO appointed for the project. “This transport reaffirms LASO’s ability to tackle and overcome large-scale logistical challenges. This partnership with Martifer is a testament to the trust that one of the leading industrial companies places in LASO for the execution of highly complex operations,” he said.
