Jumbo cuts GHG emissions with mechanical sails on Jumbo Jubilee
Jumbo Maritime, a member of the JSI Alliance, has taken a step forward on its sustainability path with the installation of two mechanical sails on its heavy-lift vessel, Jumbo Jubilee.
The company said that in addition to the new anti-fouling measures on the propellers, ongoing monitoring of the hull’s anti-fouling layers, and the eco-control upgrade to the propulsion system, it has unlocked a more fuel-efficient way to operate the vessel.
According to Econowind, it is the first geared vessel with wind-assisted propulsion.
By consuming less fuel, the company is significantly reducing its greenhouse gas emissions, taking a meaningful step toward a more sustainable future. The new eco-control system optimises fuel use by minimising consumption at a set speed, while the sails generate additional thrust, reducing the burden on the main engines and further cutting fuel usage.
