Global heavy lift specialist Sarens has completed the weighing and loadout of the offshore converter platform (OCP) for the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm in a record-breaking operation.

The project, executed in partnership with RWE, GE, and Seatrium at the Seatrium Yard in Batam, Indonesia, involved the transportation and loading of the massive 14,000-tonne OCP topside and the 5,250-tonne OCP jacket.

The OCP, a critical component of the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm in the southern North Sea, will convert energy from wind turbines into direct current (DC) power for transmission to shore. The wind farm is expected to generate up to 1,200 megawatts of green energy.

Sarens provided a comprehensive range of services, including engineering, manpower, specialized equipment, and 524 axles with 18 self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) for the operation.

Overcoming challenges posed by the project’s scale, weather conditions, and logistical complexities, Sarens deployed a team of 28 experts to complete the loadout safely and efficiently.

The successful execution of this project underscores Sarens’ expertise in handling large-scale, complex projects, solidifying its position as a global leader in heavy lifting and transport. The company’s longstanding relationship with RWE, dating back to 2021, was instrumental in the project’s success.
