Two more Lakermax MPPs pass sea trials
Briese Schiffahrts GmbH & Co. KG is going full steam ahead with its 13,000 dwt Lakermax multipurpose newbuild fleet. Following the delivery of BBC Leer, the first in the series of fifteen vessels, the company now said that two more of these triple-decker MPPs have completed sea trials.
In a brief statement, Briese Schiffahrts GmbH & Co. KG said the vessels in question are BBC Houston and BBC Genoa.
The Lakermax multipurpose vessels are optimized and designed to meet the needs of various industries. The two Liebherr LS 250 cranes have a total lifting capacity of up to 500 tonnes. The open area of the weather deck is 2,830 square metres. Two box cargo holds below deck hold more than 26,000 cubic metres of cargo in an area of about 5,000 square metres. The three-level cargo hold below deck can accommodate cargo up to 104.3 metres long and 18.2 metres wide.
Earlier this month, BBC Leer entered service with its maiden voyage from Nantong to the St Lawrence Seaway in Canada via the Panama Canal.
While designed for worldwide trading, the BBC LakerMax-class vessels maintain the ability to navigate both the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Great Lakes, offering access to key North American markets.
The vessels are powered by a 6,000-kilowatt (kW) MAN B&W main engine, delivering eco-friendly service speeds between 13 and 15 knots.
